The Lodge of Seafarers organised a ceremony at Sailors’ Corner in Arnos Vale cemetery to mark the Act of Remembrance. The ceremony started with the hymn, O God Our Help in Ages Past, followed by prayers. The exhortation was given, and The Last Post was then sounded, followed by the 2 minutes silence. After reveille, the Kohima Epitaph was recited, and the ceremony concluded with the Naval hymn – Eternal Father Strong to Save. The main photograph shows W.Bro Paul Arthur, W.Bro Chris Kitson and Bro. Lindsay Minty at Sailors’ Corner.
After the ceremony, members from the Downend Lodges gathered for the inaugural lunch to mark Remembrance Sunday. This was organised and hosted by the WM of The Lodge of Seafarers.
In the photographs are the Worshipful Masters of Tyndall Lodge – W.Bro Phil Robinson, Kingswood Chase Lodge – W.Bro Ian Fear and the IPMs of both Lodges, W. Bros Steve Bullen & Dave Vowles. Also, Tyndall’s SW, Bro. Stuart Jay and Charity Steward W.Bro Geoff Cave.
Downend was supported by W.Bro Andy Down and their SW, Bro. Lyndsay Minty.
W.Bro Richard Snelgrove represented the Lodge of Fellowship.
Seafarers were represented by the WM, W.Bro Chris Kitson, their Treasurer W.Bro Barry Doull, Tyler W.Bro Paul Arthur and Membership Officer W. Bro Jonathan Bright, who very aptly brought along a potential candidate.
Everyone was joined by their wives and partners, which, despite the sombre occasion, allowed for a very relaxed and convivial afternoon.
Between each dining course, readings were given about several living Victoria Cross recipients.
This being a combined event, a raffle was in aid of the Project 21 appeal.
Following this successful event, the baton has been passed to Tyndall Lodge, and the WM has already booked the hall for Sunday, 12th November 2023.
